The George Washington Masonic National Memorial is a Masonic building, memorial, and museum located in Alexandria, just seven minutes from 1600 Prince St. condos.
George Washington Masonic National Memorial
This impressive nine-story neoclassical building has been erected and maintained by the Freemasons of the United States in memory of George Washington, the first president of the United States and a Mason. The building also acts as a research library, a cultural space, a community and performing arts center, and an important regional landmark. It has many historical artifacts that provide enlightenment about the origins of Masonry and there's a gift shop that is well-stocked with high-quality Masonic and Eastern Star gift selections.
In 2015, the memorial was added to the list of National Historic Landmark and National Register of Historic Places in recognition as " “the only major unified, fully national initiative of the Freemasons and among the boldest attempts by a private organization to memorialize George Washington.”
The Memorial is open every day of the week from 9 am to 5 pm (closed on major holidays). The admission fee is $18 but children aged 12 and below are admitted to Memorial for free but must be accompanied by an adult. There are five tours daily at 9 am, 11 am, 1 pm, 2:30 pm, and 4 pm. The guided tour takes one hour and includes five or more areas of the Memorial including several exhibit rooms and the Observation Deck which offer a wonderful view of the city.
